We have a variety of general business skills training that supplements our programme of management and professional courses. These are suitable for many levels - from new recruits to well-established members of the team. Our current offer includes business languages, and numeracy and literacy skills for the workplace.
Business languages
Do you or your employees travel regularly abroad on business?
Do you have frequent visitors from overseas?
We have a portfolio of specially-adapted French, German, Spanish and Italian courses that will prepare you or your staff to work more effectively in today’s global marketplace. These all feature work-related language together with important social interactions and, advice on cultural differences.
The grammar and vocabulary taught provide a good basis for both business and leisure contacts. We focus on the way languages are used in everyday communication with special emphasis on developing and practising speaking the language. Our portfolio includes:
- Two-hour lunchtime ‘tasters’
- Formal qualification courses
And all with specialist staff who really understand what business needs. If you deal further afield we can also provide bespoke courses in non-European languages such as Mandarin, to help you optimise the opportunities these world markets present. Please contact us for details about this competitively-priced bespoke option.
The training can be delivered either at our centres in Stevenage or Letchworth at hours to suit you or - depending on numbers - we could run programmes at your own premises.
Don’t let the language barrier be a barrier to your business growth. Call 01462 650246 or email business@nhc.ac.uk to find out more, or to discuss your company’s specific requirements.

"Learning a language is not just about words: it is about communication, commitment, intercultural understanding and, building an ability to operate and be successful in a multilingual and multicultural world."

Skills for work and business
Even competent individuals may feel less than confident with some aspects of their job but, with our new Skills for Work courses, we can help them achieve even more.
- Has a valued employee ever disappointed with their written communication, or lacked confidence with language or numeracy skills?
- Do you employ non-UK nationals?
- Do you have staff in practical roles who need to communicate with clients?
- Perhaps you wish that you had stronger skills in these areas yourself?
We deliver a range of specially-designed language, literacy, and communication skills programmes that can really help improve your business performance either off-site or at your premises. This includes report writing, correspondence, and basic business mathematics. Successful students will each receive a recognised qualification.
The first step to improving any area of your work or personal effectiveness is recognising there is room for growth. We can meet and discuss your concerns and suggest solutions that can really enhance your business.
We also organise workplace 'roadshows' where staff can find out if they need to brush up their work skills using some simple games. This popular option can help overcome some of the sensitivities surrounding skills updates, as staff can volunteer themselves for training.
